For years, many customers have raved about our low prices for our storage buildings. Lately, we have noticed a growing amount of customers wanting to shop around for the best available price. A recent customer, who had just finished a substantial amount of bargain hunting, revealed to us that we have some of the lowest prices around. He even mentioned, It's more expensive to buy a DIY(Do-It-Yourself) Wood Shed from Lowe's than buy a barn from Byrd's. We found this hard to believe since Lowe's is such a large company and usually offer competitive prices. So the research began...
Byrd's vs NC Sheds
NC Sheds is also located in Clayton on Allen Rd (off of Cleveland Rd). They provide custom, on-site, built storage buildings. NC Sheds offer a lineup of buildings that include the typical A-roof or shed style, a Dutch or barn style that includes a loft, and a high-end livable confinement.
Their informative website includes sizes, prices, and accessories for all of their buildings. I have included below two comparative tables that display prices of our most comparable buildings. The first includes information on their "Yard Shed" vs. our A-roof style.
Both have approximately 9.5 ft front/back wall
|Size ||Byrd's Wholesale (7.5 ft*) ||NC Sheds (7 ft*) ||Difference |
|10' x 12' ||$ 1,320.00 ||$ 2,350.00 ||$ 1,030.00 |
|10' x 16' ||$ 1,760.00 ||$ 2,850.00 ||$ 1,090.00 |
|12' x 12' ||$ 1,584.00 ||$ 2,795.00 ||$ 1,211.00 |
|12' x 16' ||$ 2,112.00 ||$ 3,450.00 ||$ 1,338.00 |
|12' x 20' ||$ 2,640.00 ||$ 4,000.00 ||$ 1,360.00 |
The second table includes information on their "Yard Barn" style against the Byrd's Wholesale Dutch style. Byrd's Wholesale will charge an additional 10% to the base price of a Dutch building if it has a loft included. Therefore the prices below reflect a 10% increase of our own prices to fairly compare against the "Yard Barn" style (that includes a loft) of NC Sheds.
Both have approximately 11 ft front/back wall
|Size ||Byrd's Wholesale (5 ft*) ||NC Sheds (6 ft*) ||Difference |
|8' x 10' ||$ 1,098.90 ||$ 1,800.00 ||$ 701.10 |
|8' x 12' ||$ 1,267.20 ||$ 2,050.00 ||$ 782.80 |
|10' x 10' ||$ 1,318.90 ||$ 2,195.00 ||$ 876.10 |
|10' x 12' ||$ 1,452.00 ||$ 2,495.00 ||$ 1,043.00 |
|10' x 16' ||$ 1,936.00 ||$ 2,795.00 ||$ 859.00 |

Byrd's vs Cardinal Buildings (Shed Moving)
As you may know, Byrd's Wholesale also offers Storage Building moving services
. Occasionally customers will later want to move their building around in their own yard or even transport it to another property. However we know we aren't the only company to preform such services but we didn't exactly know who else did. One company we found that did offer this unique service was Cardinal Buildings
. An outline of their prices compared to our own is below (Note that both Byrd's and Cardinal Buildings stress that prices are "unseen" estimates only).
- 8ft - $285
- 10ft - $365
- 12ft - $450
- After 20 loaded miles - $3 per mile
- After 1.5 hours of work - $50 per hour
- Wider than 12'1" - $75 for escort car
Its a lot of stipulations. They also have fees for removing steps or ramps and if you aren't ready when they get to your location. Take a look at Byrd's Wholesale's prices.
- If we move a building inside your property within 50 miles of our address. - $75.00
- If we move a building from property to property within a 10 mile radius of our address. - $150.00
- If we move a building from property to property beyond a 10 mile radius of our address. There is an extra charge of $25.00 for each additional 10 miles. - $200.00
Byrd's vs Cardinal Buildings
Our closest competitor, only about 15 miles from BW, is located between Clayton and Garner. They offer a wide range of products and services, including building utility sheds, gazebos, garages, and moving storage buildings (we will compare that service in the next post). Aside from gazebos, their product depth is very similar to our own.
Upon visiting their website you will notice they fail to display the prices of almost all of these products (they do have an annoying video that plays when you open the site). They ask you call and request a complimentary catalog to learn of their prices (This holds true as they even sent one to me).
Since Cardinal Buildings' A-Roof Shed varies in front/back and side wall heights I can only fairly compare their 12'x12', 12'x16', and 12'x20' size A-Roofs to our own (Also very popular sizes with our customers). There are obviously other sizes built and sold by both companies but these are the easiest and most appropriate to compare (Just note and compare wall sizes if you wish to investigate further).
